If you hobble along to your doctor, they will probably suggest an anti-inflammatory drug in the first instance, such as Ibuprofen. This will dull the pain somewhat. Doctors do have other pharmaceuticals in their armory, but - as with all pharmaceuticals, even Ibuprofen - there is a risk of unwelcome side effects.
